    Air Waves – Lightning

Brooklynite Nicole Schneidt’s band Air Waves open up for the also brilliant Tap Tap at The Windmill In Brixton tonight. Both Nicole’s music and lyrics are beautifully simple yet completely engrossing. Yes we’ll admit that we thought it was a guy singing the first time round (think Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne meets Forest Fire’s Mark Thresher) but that’s not a bad thing in our books. There are a few tickets left so snap them up now.

Lawrence Arabia – Apple Pie Bed

Lawrence Arabia is our favourite recent New Zealand export after Flight of The Concords of course and less obviously The Ruby Suns, who incidentally Lawrence Arabia or James Milne if you prefer, used to play with. James has also played with the likes of Feist, Okkervil River and a handful of NZ based acts. What’s it sound like then? Off kilter, psychedelic pop music mostly.

  • Yuck – Georgia

    Yuck – Georgia

So we went to check out Yuck playing an opening slot for the pretty good Egyptian Hip Hop at The Stag’s Head in Dalston last night. It was our first glimpse at a band we’ve been eager to see so it was disappointing to find out that they were on early and only catch two songs worth of material. Thankfully one of those songs was the beautiful Georgia. Until the next time…

Follow That Bird! – The Ghost That Wakes You

Follow That Bird! are a girl-girl-boy three piece from Austin, Texas that play ferocious yet melodious garage rock. It may not surprise you then to learn that they feature on Matador’s recent Austin inspired compilation, Causal Victim Pile: Austin 2010. The track that features on said comp is ‘The Ghost That Wakes You’, it’s below and we think you’ll like it. A lot.
