Review: Fleet Foxes @ Shepherds Bush Empire, Nov 5th.

Fleet Foxes were on flying form last night despite Robin Pecknold admitting to a bit of a sore throat. It’s hardly suprising the way he sings. His voice is the driving force behind many of the Foxes songs and can fill a room and beyond. It is given ample support and extra layers from the remaining members of the band and their harmonies are almost as perfect as on record. Highlights predictably come in ‘He Doesn’t Know Why’, ‘Drops In The Ocean’, ‘Your Protector’ and a personal favourite ‘Mykonos’ from their excellent Sun Giant EP.

One thing newcomers don’t expect when they come to a Fleet Foxes show is witty inter-song chat but that’s exactly what you get. Tonight Robin’s insight into Obama’s recent victory in the democratic nomination has the crowd in stitches, comparing him to an old friend who you could say ‘Barrack, what the fuck?’ to if he doesn’t deliver on his promises.

A great way to cap an astounding first year for this special band.
