SXSW 2009 Day 1 – The Mae Shi.

Wow yesterday was Day 1 of 5 for music at SXSW 2009. I’m feeling a little wonky but here’s the first of my highlights. The Mae Shi @ Maggie Mae’s. Who the f£$K are they? Yep that’s what I thought. These guys were the first band I caught yesterday and very nearly the best.
For Fans Of: Trail Of Dead, Future Of The Left, Titus Andronicus.
Amazing punk energy from this L.A. based four piece (signed to Moshi Moshi in the UK but unsigned elsewhere). The highlight of which was when singer/guitarist and drummer came into the crowd, covered us with a parachute and performed the intro to one of their tracks from underneath. Amazing! Really loud, really passionate music.
The mp3 I’ve posted is a song they made out of Christian Bale’s infamous rant on the set of the new Terminator movie. It’s great but check out their MySpace for more typical (if there is such a thing with this band) songs.
