SXSW 2009 Day 2 – The Low Anthem.

The Low Anthem @ End Of The Road Party. The Low Anthem are hands down the best new folk/Americana band about. Thanks to End Of The Road label for this one. They’re a boy-girl-boy outfit from Boston who seem pretty young but there’s a real precision and maturity to their songs which would make you think otherwise.

For Fans Of: Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Pete Seger.

I sat next to female member Jocie’s mum and brother and they were telling me that the pedal powered organ that Jeff was playing was found in the deep South and used to belong to an old lady’s ‘help’. Lead song ‘Charlie Darwin’ is a perfect song. ‘Ticket Taker’ is sublime too. Front man Ben’s voice is exceptional, gong from high notes to throaty growl seamlessly. The band play The End Of The Road Festival in the UK this September.
