I have two tickets to give away for the SOLD OUT Beirut gig next week. All I’m asking in return is that you and a friend (or more if possible) sign up for my mailing list. I only send one email per week with updates of what’s coming up over the week ahead and what’s new to the site. I won’t share your email and will send no spam I promise.
All you have to do once you’ve signed up yourself is give people this link: http://musicmuleblog.wordpress.com/mailing-list/ , ask them to submit their email and put YOUR name in the text box. I’ll then choose the winner at random from the names submitted. Only real emails will be accepted! The winner will be announced on site and via email next Thursday.
What? Beirut
Young New Mexico musical prodigy Zach Condon brings his band Beirut back to London for a one off gig on Friday May 8th. Zach and Beirut have become cult legends since the release of first album ‘Gulag Orkestar’ back in 2006. Famed for an Eastern European sound picked up while travelling through the area while at a tender age, the songs are littered with a variety of horns, strings and rare instruments while Zach’s voice serves as perhaps the biggest instrument of them all. A special talent and a great live experience.
For Fans Of: Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear.
Support:
Shearwater used to be the side project of two Okkervil River members, Will Sheff and Jonathan Meiburg. Five albums later and Will Sheff is concentrating more on his old band while Jonathan has taken over chief writing duties. It’s Jonathan’s other worldly voice, the most obvious comparison is Antony of Antony & The Johnsons, that is the most striking thing about this band but the music and lyrics are equally as haunting and emotional.
For Fans Of: Antony & The Johnsons, Okkervil River, The National.
When? Friday, May 8th.
Where? The Forum, Kentish Town.
mp3: Beirut – Nantes
mp3: Shearwater – Rooks
