Preview: Field Day 2009 @ Victoria Park, Aug 1st.

What? London’s best one day indie festival Field Day returns with another killer lineup. The festival is now in it’s third year and so far hasn’t hit the nail on the head as far as organisation (loos, queues, sound) is concerned but it seems to be improving slowly and as always there’s no arguing with the music on offer. Check out Music Mule’s must sees and get some tickets.

Stage by Stage who we’ll be watching:

Eat Your Own Ears Main Stage

The Horrors - the East London lot are back with a brand new sound an album full of gorgeous keys, synth and soaring guitar effects, produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead. It’s our album of the year so far and has just been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

For Fans Of: My Bloody Valentine, Jesus And Mary Chain, Joy Division.

The Temper Trap - now also East London residents after moving from Melbourne this year. Just about to release their debut album. They will be the most epic band you see all day with the exception of Mogwai. You must check out front-man Dougy’s voice.

For Fans Of: TV On The Radio, U2, Sonic Youth.

Mogwai, the epic Scots’ only UK Summer Festival appearance will be everything we’ve come to expect from them. Slowly building epic, soaring guitar riffs that will melt your face.

For Fans Of: Explosions In The Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, As if we need to tell you.

Santigold. Now we’re sure she used to be called Santogold but we’ll let it go. The Brooklyn songstress should be a lot of fun. Something to shake your booty to!

For Fans Of: Beastie Boys, Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani.

Errors should sound great if the sound is up to it. Danceable math-rock infused grooves from Scotland.

For Fans Of: Holy Fuck, Three Trapped Tigers, Foals.

Adventures In The Beetroot Field Stage

Four Tet a.k.a. Kieran Hebden is a must see with his ghostly folk-tinged electronica.

For Fans Of: Boards Of Canada, Caribou, Fridge.

Micachu & The Shapes are young prodigy Mica and her band. Their debut album ‘Jewelery’ was out this year on Rough Trade Records. Danceable, wonky pop with an array of small instruments and Mica’s dead pan vocal delivery.

For Fans Of: Kid Carpet, Beta Band, Metronomy.

Mystery Jets have been laying low for a while, presumably recording, but they re-surface for what will be one of the biggest slots of the weekend. If the sun is shining this could be the perfect set.

For Fans Of: Bombay Bicycle Club, Your Twenties, Good Shoes.

The Big Pink are Londoners Milo and Robbie and they’re easily one of the best new bands around. Shoegaze and Madchester vibes with big beats and an underlying pop sensibility.

For Fans of: TV On The Radio, School Of Seven Bells, Spacemen 3.
