On Repeat: Crocodiles – Neon Jesus
Posted by: nick
After an enlightening interview with The Strange Boys last week where front man Ryan was raving about his love for the current San Francisco/Californian music scene we decided to dig a little deeper. Already hooked on Thee Oh Sees and now San Diego’s Crocodiles are next on the list. ‘Neon Jesus’ is the most immediate of a strong set of UK post-punk influenced tunes.
For Fans Of: Jesus and Mary Chain, Suicide, The Smith Westerns.
Neon Jesus was a 2008 single, since then the band have made their debut full length ‘Summer Of Hate’ which was released through Fat Possum records in June of this year. Check out the glorious ‘I Wanna Kill’ below and pick up the album if you like.
Crocodiles main men Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell apparently lifted their name from Echo & The Bunnymen’s first album and the 80s British influence is there for all to hear in the spiky drumming, guitar delay and sweet vocal effects.
They’re currently undertaking a West Coast tour of America with a couple of British bands, namely girl trio Pens and London band Graffiti Island. But fear not sound junkies, Crocodiles will be hitting these shores in October. Watch this space..
