Music Mule presents: Eugene McGuinness, Stars Of Sunday League @ The Fellow, Oct 4th.

What? Music Mule is proud to present ‘Acoustic Consequences’ featuring Eugene McGuinness and Stars Of Sunday League. To say we’re over the moon with this Sunday evening double bill is an understatement. Concerning Eugene McGuinness Drowned In Sound put it rather excellently, saying, “Save yourself the embarrassment a year or so down the line of not letting songs as perfect as these enrich your existence sooner”.

For Fans Of: Arctic Monkeys, Jeremy Warmsley, The Beatles.

Eugene McGuinness, 24, combines the witty turn of phrase of label mate Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) with a timeless Beatles influenced songwriting style of yesteryear. Signed to the mighty Domino Records (home to Bonnie Prince Billy, Smog, Animal Collective), his 2007 extended EP ‘The Early Learnings Of Eugene McGuinness’ and his self-titled 2008 full length won critical praise across the board, scoring 9/10 and 8/10 respectively from Drowned In Sound. Since then Eugene has got a new band in the shape of The Lizards but tonight we’re lucky enough to get an increasingly rare solo show. Just one man of London Irish origin who grew up in Liverpool and his gee-tar!

We’ve been keenly following the progress of Stars Of Sunday League since they blew our socks off during a support slot for English folk legend Chris Wood a few months back. Stars Of… are Euan Robinson and Sarah Triggs from London via Edinburgh. Euan’s stripped down acoustic songwriting and unmistakeably Scottish accent are the perfect medium through which to enjoy his wry tales of haircuts making up for faces (I Still Like Football) and the politically charged tribute to late US politician Harvey Milk (above). The band’s latest offering ‘The Boys Got Prospects EP’ is out now (CD / iTunes) and it’s a little bit special.

For Fans Of: Belle and Sebastian, Frightened Rabbit, James Yorkston.
