On Repeat: Tune Yards – Bird Brains

So we somehow missed listening to this one in time for our best of 2009 feature but should she be doing so in person Merrill Garbus a.k.a. Tune Yards would be in need of oxygen with the speed at which she is currently racing up our favourite albums list. No point dwelling on missed opportunities though as thankfully this 4AD signed New England native has talent by the sack full and seems here to stay.

For Fans Of: CocoRosie, M.I.A., The Raincoats.

Her sound is an eclectic one marrying lo-fi folk, r’n'b and even a bit of reggae. The record was all homemade on a digital voice recorder and mixed using some shareware software from the world wide web. So the story goes.
