Review: Air Waves @ The Windmill Brixton, Feb 8th.

Air Waves music would fit neatly onto the Juno movie soundtrack right alongside the likes of The Moldy Peaches. So it was no surprise to see Nicole Schneit check shirted and perfectly at home in Brixton’s indiest of venues, The Windmill, last night.
With the exception of a little rhythmic interplay between Nicole on guitar and her dexterous bass player, it isn’t showy stuff from the three-piece. ‘Lightning’ proves an early example of their straight shooting approach with its sweet melody and minimal drumming tap tapping its way into your head.
It doesn’t stop there though. Air Waves aim for the heartstrings too and during ‘Shine On’ with lines like “I lost someone this year, you gained a star…. when you shine on, shine on thinking of me”, you can’t fail to get wrapped up in their charm.
Air Waves play play two more London dates, both on 12th February, first a free instore at Pure Groove and then at The Lexington later that night. They then embark on a European tour including a couple of dates supporting the mighty Real Estate. Catch them while you can.
