SXSW 2010: Dinosaur Feathers @ Creekside Lounge
Posted by: nick
Dinosaur Feathers are Greg, Duck and Ryan from Brooklyn, New York. They make ultra harmonious, pop drenched, afrobeat infused tropical mayhem that can not fail to slap an ear to ear smile across even the most rainy of faces! Having fallen in love with their self-released debut ‘Fantasy Memorial’, we were eager to see how they shaped up live.
For Fans Of: Vampire Weekend, Ruby Suns, El Guincho.
Front man Greg handles lead vox, acoustic guitar and a literal box of tricks containing what seems to be some kind of sampler while his band mates are on keys and often distorted bass. All three chip in for those plentiful harmonies. Considering this is the third Dinosaur Feathers show of the day their voices sound incredible and bearing in mind they are a band that never hold back this is even more astonishing.
They really come across as some sort of hybrid of Vampire Weekend and Ruby Suns’ earlier material but their delivery and take on the sound is their own. Songs that instantly grab the attention are Family Waves, Vendela Vida, Teenage Whore and then wonky electronic set closer and album title track Fantasy Memorial which you can hear above.
Pick up the band’s debut album now on iTunes and if you’re in the U.S. head over to the bands MySpace for details of a string of gigs over the next few weeks.
