Review: Harlem @ Hoxton B&K, Aug 23rd.
The world needs more bands like Harlem. On Monday the Austin garage-punk 3-piece proved yet again that America is leading the way when it comes to exciting new bands, especially it would seem when it comes to playing live which the yanks seem to relish far more than us spotlight shy Brits. Monday night shows are always tame though right? Not exactly. // more

Wavves – King Of The Beach
So Wavves’ Nathan Williams is pretty famous in the indie world for splitting opinions (noisy shit or finger on the pulse genius?) and for having a drug n booze induced on stage breakdown of sorts during his set at Primavera festival in 2009. While we enjoyed snippets (‘So Bored’) of his 2009 self-titled debut we were hardly bowled over by the whole tin can tape hiss affair. On his new album for Bella Union however, the self proclaimed ‘King Of The Beach’ seems to have upped his game considerably.

Dog Is Dead – Young
Dog Is Dead are an aspiring new five piece who have taken the Nottingham music scene by storm and look set to extend their success further afield with their self-released second single ‘Young’ (video after the jump – password = boggle). The band released their debut single ‘Glockenspiel Song’ to acclaim back in June, were the only unsigned band to have their Glastonbury appearance broadcast by the BBC and have the likes of Radio 1′s Huw Stephens leading their fanfare. For us, one of the recent standouts in a so hot right now UK folk/pop scene.

Dylan LeBlanc – Pauper’s Field
Meet one of Rough Trade Records’ latest signings, 19 year old Dylan LeBlanc from North-West Louisiana. Dylan spent his time growing up between Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana and Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He’s just finished cutting his debut album ‘Pauper’s Field’ with Grammy winner Trina Shoemaker, due out Aug 23rd. The record is a modern Americana triumph, oozing experience, deftness of touch and talent beyond his years.
