WIld Beasts Hoxton Hall Live Video

Wild Beasts are one of our artists of the year and seeing them at Swn festival in Cardiff this past weekend reminded us just what a colossally good live band they are. Those falsetto and baritone vocals, driving percussion and haunting guitar tones really hammer home live. Luckily for the armchair detectives out there the band have just made their August Hoxton Hall gig available to watch for free online.

    Swn 2009 Day 1: Jonquil

Jonquil are a six piece who have been praised by Yannis Philippakis of fellow Oxford bandĀ Foals. You’d be forgiven for expecting a math rock assault but that ain’t really their bag. They have a similar musical muscle to Foals but they choose to flex it in a very different way.

On Repeat: Acres, Acres – Diamonds From Coal

Acres, Acres and their comma are the new band from Music Mule favourite Jeremy Warmsley. If you liked Jeremy’s 2008 album ‘How We Became’ then there’s definitely stuff here for you to get your teeth into but Acres, Acres have a sound of their own which is a bit more rock’n'roll influenced than older material citing influences as divers as Black Flag to Elvis. ‘Diamonds From Coal’ is a joy from start to finish and its chorus is epic!
