Interview: Girls – Christopher Owens
So Girls made our ‘Album’ of 2009 and also played some of our favourite gigs of the year which you can check out in our reviews archive. We were lucky to meet Girls songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Christopher Owens in person during the Swn festival in Cardiff this year and we’re pleased to say he’s a real gent and shares some of our musical tastes which is always a plus! Girls @ Scala, February 23rd.
What? Our band of the year Girls play as part of the Shockwaves NME Awards shows in the run up to the hype rag’s 2010 awards ceremony. We’ll be there eager to see Girls pull off their biggest UK show to date. These San Franciscans are magic and more than worth enduring the buzzzzzz for.

Swn 2009 Day 2: Girls
Our highlight of the evening came from Girls who played their final UK show last night before flying back to San Francisco this morning. If they were tired from the relentless touring then it didn’t show. Everything about the band from Christopher’s voice to the dual guitars, bass and drums fits perfectly. Their sound oozes warmth. So many great songs it’s hard to pick a highlight but….

Girls, a generic name that takes a great band to pull it off and tonight they show us exactly why they can do so. Girls are more about songs than any of the showmanship you might usually expect attached to such accolades but when the songs are this good then they are simply all that is needed. // more
