Darwin Deez @ Scala, October 26th.

What? Poodle haired New York hipster Darwin Deez has had a hell of a year with the release of his frankly excellent self-titled debut album getting him on all kinds of playlists this side of the Atlantic. Famed for slightly erratic but highly entertaining live shows including full band dance freak-out interludes! This will be his biggest UK headline show yet.

Tune Yards (5 Piece Band) @ Scala, June 23rd.

What? Merrill Garbus or Tune Yards is one hell of a talented lady from New England who combines elements of reggae, r’n'b and animal collective esque campfire singalongs, held together by her unique and powerful voice. Her 2009 album Bird Brains was one of the finest debuts of the past five years or so. Usually performed live with two people and loop pedals, this will be a special one off show with a 5 Piece band at the epic Scala in Kings Cross.

It’s a phenomenally rewarding listen with more influences than you can shake a stick at. Prince and The Beatles side by side shouldn’t necessarily work but with a little bit of Northern magic and elbow grease it does just that. // more

    Girls @ Scala, Feb 23rd.

Girls won us over hook, line and sinker last year with their heartfelt West Coast pop and occasional but startlingly convincing forays into shoegaze. All was and is accompanied by Christopher Owens’ tales of love, always love. Among those captivated by the band’s debut were the NME who made the band headliners of one of their NME Awards Tour shows despite no actual award. So what would the kids think? Would there be any there?
