Swn 2009 Day 2: The Longcut

The Longcut battled through some early sound issues to play what ended up as an impressive beat driven set. They have a singing drummer but thankfully that’s where the Genesis comparisons stop. The 3-piece have a euphoric rhythmic sound which is impressive if not too original. They could easily be American but they’re not.

  • Swn 2009 Day 2: Sweet Baboo

Sweet Baboo is Stephen Black from Cardiff we do believe. He plays quirky bluegrass tinged folk and does so pretty well. We love him for the following self proclaimed fact alone: “I have a love song and I’ve tried not to use the word love so I changed it to lungs instead”. Genius.

Swn 2009 Day 1: Wild Beasts

Hardly a new discovery but who can turn down the opportunity to see the awesome Wild Beasts in the flesh? Well we’ve actually done it once already this year and that was an error. Wild Beasts second album ‘Two Dancers’ is one of the best of the year so far and it’s great to see the band effortlessly rolling through their increasingly impressive catalogue live.

    Swn 2009 Day 1: Jonquil

Jonquil are a six piece who have been praised by Yannis Philippakis of fellow Oxford bandĀ Foals. You’d be forgiven for expecting a math rock assault but that ain’t really their bag. They have a similar musical muscle to Foals but they choose to flex it in a very different way.
