Animal Collective have been creating music for 10 years and first received quiet acclaim in 2004 on the release of Sung Tongs, however their uncompromising experimental sound, unable to be pinned down by writers and fans alike, kept them rooted firmly in the music underground. Friendly Fires @ The Forum, April 30th.
What? Friendly Fires, the St. Albans 3-piece, announce a London headline date in April. It comes on the back of the success of last year’s excellent disco guitar drenched debut album ‘Friendly Fires’ and a subsequent sold out NME Awards tour for which Glasvegas headlined but the band were billed above White Lies and recent sensation Florence and The Machine. What? Animal Collective. Think a mixture of luscious beach boy harmonies (especially from *’one man choir’ Noah Lennox a.k.a. Panda Bear) and dreamy psychedelic folk and then boom: noise with guitar loops, timely bleeps and blips a plenty and then float again! This is an extra date as their current UK tour sold out even before the recent release of their new album Merriweather Pavillion which has been hailed by some as the first great indie album of 2009. // more
